Learning Chinese, a solution to unemployment in Africa

China is Benin's third largest trading partner, with trade valued at more than US$60 billion a year, and Africa's first. According to a report released in Beijing in 2021 by China-Africa Business Council, Chinese private companies account for about 70% of investment in Africa. China carries out more than a third of infrastructure projects on the continent. In 2009, the Confucius Institute was created and set up on the Abomey-Calavi campus, offering training for a degree in Chinese translation and interpretation. Students from this school are the most sought-after in the African job market. Some also work as tourist guides.

In Canada, a museum dedicated to Africa

The Afromusée is a cultural space guaranteeing knowledge of the history of Africa and its diaspora in Montreal, Quebec. It opened its doors for the first time on 24 February 2022. This space aims to enhance the testimonies of Africans and to fight against discrimination and racism against Africans in Canada.

Cameroon : Cassava flour as an alternative to wheat flour

Since the beginning of the Russian-Ukrainian war, wheat flour has become too expensive and scarce in several African countries. In Cameroon, young entrepreneurs have started to produce cassava flour. In Douala, you can find pastry and couscous made from this flour.

LAAF’s project on therapy for men who have been abused

In Nigeria, a young woman who survived sexual abuse, found the strength to teach other victims how to overcome this ordeal. Her foundation Life after Abuse strives for a better social awareness of sexual violence and the post-traumatic convalescence of victims. Halima Layeni focused her attention on marginalized adolescents to whom she offered listening sessions and therapy. She then realized that young men who were victims of abuse needed more adapted therapy. Our correspondent in Abuja, Ugo Uyanna followed her to understand her approach.

Between war and inflation, a daily struggle for the inhabitants of Goma

In the Democratic Republic of Congo, inflation is forcing the inhabitants of Goma to limit their meals. They are subject to soaring prices and restrictions caused by the war. On the one hand, they are forbidden to leave their village. On the other hand, food shipments remain blocked in the north of the country by the rebels. Traders find themselves short of products and are forced to sell at a loss to survive.

Eric Armel N’Doumba, President of the African Centre for Research in Artificial Intelligence

During the second edition of the Semaine Francophone de la Jeunesse Estudiantine Scientifique, the AUF created the first Francophone network of artificial intelligence to grant financial stability to researchers and valorising Francophone research on an international scale. Eric Armel N'Doumba, the vice president of this network, is also the president of the African Centre for Research in Artificial Intelligence. The main objective is to develop digital skills on the African continent by delivering four training programmes on the subject, accessible to primary school pupils and company employees.
