Young African activists meet at COP 27

The 27th edition of the United Nations International Climate Conference was held last week in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt. On this occasion, many young African activists came to advocate for their country's climate cause, with the hope that concrete actions will result from this large gathering of UN countries. At a time of climate urgency, this gathering is highly anticipated by the Africans, who want to see a profound change in how the different states deal with the climate issue.

AUF – Marina Eyang Mve, PhD student in economics, environmental activist

Marina Eyang Mve is a PhD student in economics at the University of Libreville. She spent her youth in Central Africa, a country with a tropical climate where environmental issues are not yet a priority. She is one of the leaders of the Francophone student clubs, a new associative network founded in October in Cairo by the Agence universitaire de la Francophonie. She studies public policy issues such as poverty and has developed a real interest in the environment. She created a student club to raise awareness about climate emergency among young people.

Snake hunters save lives in Guinea

In Guinea, snakes terrorise and attack the population. In Kobikoro, a village located 80 km from Faranah, a snake killed a dozen people. Khalo Moussa Keira and his son belong to a family renowned for snake hunting. The Keiras are constantly being solicited and travel around the country to treat victims of snake bites. This tradition of the Keiras is passed down from generation to generation and has helped save over 24,000 lives according to them.

The Scientific Francophone week organised by the AUF in Cairo, Egypt

At this event, some 40 ministers of higher education and 100 students from 50 French-speaking countries gathered to discuss artificial intelligence and entrepreneurship. The first Congress of the French-speaking Student Youth took place, providing an opportunity to participate in the creation of 180 student clubs. Our team was pleased to meet Marina Eyang Mve, a young Gabonese PhD student in economics in Libreville. She is the leader of a student club and aims to raise awareness of environmental issues among young people.
